ATTORNEY , MICHAEL P. SHANAHAN, ADVISES INDIANA RETAIL MERCHANTS OF NEW INDIANA SALES TAX FILING REQUIREMENT EFFECTIVE
JANUARY 1, 2009
Effective January 1, 2009, all retail merchants submitting their sales/use tax by electronic funds transfer will be required to file monthly returns. This new filing requirement replaces the current quarterly recap filing requirements. Information on the new filing requirement was published by the Indiana Department of State Revenue (“Department”) in Information Bulletin #77, which can be found on the Departments website at http://www.in.gov/dor/reference/files/sib77.pdf. The bulletin was issued this month, November, 2008.
The Commissioner of the Indiana Department of State Revenue, Jack Eckart, recommends retail merchants use INtax as an easy and efficient way to file sales/use tax returns. More information on INtax can be found on the Department’s website at http://www.in.gov/dor/3963.htm. Your tax advisor should be able to assist you in complying with the Department’s new requirement and/or getting setup with INtax.
