James W. Brauer

Jim, who represents physicians and health care providers, has tried more than 40 medical malpractice cases to juries over the last 25 years.

Jim began focusing almost exclusively on medical malpractice cases in the late 1970s after Stewart & Irwin partners played a significant role in drafting the Indiana Medical Malpractice Act. He also handles complex commercial and insurance litigation.

Jim has been selected for inclusion on the 2011 Super lawyers list. You will find this list published in the March, 2011 issue of the Indianapolis Monthly and the Indiana Super Lawyers Magazine. Jim was also selected in 2008, 2009, and 2010. The selection process includes peer nominations and independent research of candidates.

Jim holds a doctor of jurisprudence degree from the Indiana University School of Law, Indianapolis.

Jim's competitive nature manifests itself in the form of basketball officiating during his leisure time. He's also active in pro bono cases, offering his services to several nonprofit groups that serve those in need of legal assistance.

"Without sounding corny, I think you have to give back. We try to encourage all of our lawyers to do pro bono work. The community has been pretty good to us."
